… aired my views against it in many publications and lectures. I am particularly suspicious of the Supralapsarian kind as found in Calvin’s Institutes, Book III, Chap. XXIII:7 and his Articles Concerning Predestination. I reject Calvin’s studies regarding predestination and election which leave out the covenant of grace and salvation in Christ as in Calvin’s works against Pighius. Not that I care for Pighius, but two wrongs do not make a right. Concerning confronting hearers with …

John Gill and the Charge of Hyper-Calvinism

… of the hypercalvinistic preachers”, calling those Hyper-Calvinists whom he believes adopt “a supralapsarian view that God`s decree of election preceded his decree to permit the Fall of man.” Hoad is convinced that it was Gill’s influence ‘which was a major factor in the retention of a High Calvinist theology’ in the Baptist churches.

Welcome

… fine preacher, pastor, evangelist and winner of souls par excellence. So, too, he is labelled as a Supralapsarian and Hyper, though he is far more Sublapsarian than Calvin himself. Sublapsarian Bullinger taught that God ordains some of sinful mankind to eternal life and some He passes by. Zwingli was never truly Reformed on imputation whereas Bullinger taught both the imputation of Adam’s sin to mankind and the imputation of Christ’s …

The Life and Thought of John Gill

Believer Baptism

Stanley Fowler deals with John Gill’s Doctrine of Believer Baptism in Chapter Three and bravely touches areas of Gill’s teaching which will surprise many Baptists. Unlike two other contributors in the …
